Status of exchange areas

At the time of this announcement there are 29 exchange areas that have been declared ‘red zones’, which means these entire areas are currently a ‘no go’ for Telstra staff. 3 of these exchange areas are in Northern NSW. These are listed at the end of this announcement.

A further 274 exchange areas have been declared as ‘amber zones’ which means work is able to proceed in parts of these exchange areas where it is considered safe for Telstra staff. These are listed at the end of this announcement.

With flooding across the region receding, Telstra continue to assess the network to determine where infrastructure requires the greatest attention.

Telstra have mobilised 77 technicians into the key areas within Central West (Toowoomba, Lockyer Valley, Gympie, Maryborough, Bundaberg, Rockhampton) over the last weekend and into this week to assist with customer restoration in those areas.

Overview:

  • Key areas of concern: Rockhampton, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley and Wide Bay.
  • 174 additional communication technicians are working in the region this week.
  • A Repeater has been deployed in Murphy’s Creek to enhance mobile coverage, with a Mobile Exchange On Wheels deployed in Chapel Hill.
  • A strategy is being developed with Service Outage Management for management of cable outages.

Important information regarding fault reporting

A large volume of the faults currently being reported are due to power outages that can be identified in advance. In accordance with the fault reporting provisions in Customer agreements, Customers should, before reporting a fault, conduct fault segmentation. Fault segmentation must include confirming:

  • AC power is available on-site; and
  • that there are no faults/issues with the Customer’s own equipment.

We are grateful for our Customers’ co-operation and understanding as Telstra work to resolve a large volume of faults as quickly as possible.
